If it's
at the edge,
it's in BAF
this year...
As a continuation
of the successful
At the Edge
of Animation
programme
initiated
for BAF 03,
we have once
again journeyed
to the outside
perimeter
of the discipline
and returned
with an eclectic
array of work
from directors
who each,
we think,
represent
the 'edge
of animation'
in different
ways. Piotr
Dumala's
technique
represents
a radical
appropriation
of a medium
normally reserved
for the most
static of
work - namely
sculpture
- for a fundamentally
fluid discipline,
whereas Phil
Mulloy's
films occupy
their own
position at
the edge of
animation
for their
unwavering
political
comment.
Alongside
three special
retrospective
programmes,
we present
an exclusive
preview of
new work to
emerge from
the ever-innovative
Channel
4 animate!
scheme
- a welcome
return after
the last animate!
event in 2002.
